LNG Boom Lifts Cameron Parish Out of Ruins

The small parish of Cameron in Louisiana has undergone a remarkable transformation from a devastated community to a thriving global energy hub. In 2005, Hurricane Rita ravaged the area, destroying or damaging over 90% of homes and leaving behind a massive repair bill of $2.75 billion.

Fast forward to today, and the parish is on course to become one of the wealthiest in the region, thanks to its liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminals.

The world's largest LNG terminal, Sabine Pass, is located on a marsh where cattle once grazed. It started exporting fuel overseas in 2016 and can process 29.5 million tonnes of LNG per year.

Cameron Parish is home to three LNG terminals, with a fourth under construction. The county is projected to receive tax revenues of over $4 billion over the next decade.
