LNG Canada Expansion Gains Momentum with FID Expected This Year
LNG Canada's Phase Two expansion is gaining momentum as partners consider boosting output to 28 million tonnes of LNG per year from 14 million. The expansion is expected to be approved this year, with a Final Investment Decision (FID) likely to be made in the coming months.
Energy Minister Tim Hodgson has referred to Phase Two as a 'project of national interest,' and says it will double the pipeline's capacity using existing infrastructure. TC Energy announced that Coastal GasLink has entered commercial agreements with LNG Canada, which includes building six more compressor stations along the pipeline.
LNG Canada selected TR Canada E&C for front-end engineering design services for Phase 2 expansion of the Coastal GasLink pipeline. The global LNG advantage is a key factor in the expansion plans, with LNG Canada's joint-venture partners eyeing the increased capacity to meet growing demand from Asian markets.
