LNG Canada's Broken Flaring Promises Exposed
LNG Canada's original plans for its liquefied natural gas export facility in Kitimat, B.C. included a commitment to operate without routine flaring.
However, internal documents reveal that the company quietly dropped this commitment in November 2023, just months before the facility began operations in late 2024.
Despite claims from Shell CEO Wael Sawan and B.C. Premier David Eby that LNG Canada would be one of the lowest-carbon LNG projects worldwide, the facility has burned off approximately 350 million cubic meters of gas in its first year of operation, making it one of the most polluting LNG facilities globally.
According to Tim Doty, a former state oil and gas inspector from Texas, this was 'beyond misleading' and 'totally false information.'
