LNG Prices Expected to Hold Firm Amid Qatar Downtime and European Stock Rebuilding
Japan's JERA expects LNG prices to remain firm in the near term due to Qatar's damaged facilities and Europe's need to rebuild inventories ahead of winter, according to Chairman Yukio Kani.
Kani stated that restoring some of Qatar's facilities will take more than two to three years, impacting global supplies. He also noted that European LNG inventories remain low and that the region will need to replenish stocks before winter sets in.
The situation is further complicated by Europe's plans to avoid Russian gas imports, which could lead to additional demand for spot market LNG supplies. JERA, as Japan's largest LNG buyer and top power generator, is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend.
