LNG Shipping Rates Dip Amid Balanced Freight Outlook
The liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping sector experienced subdued activity in the past week, with scarce cargo liquidity and a generally balanced freight outlook. Rates edged lower across all three benchmark routes.
On the BLNG1 Australia-Japan route, rates dipped by $2,000 compared to the previous week, ending at $73,900 per day. The Pacific basin activity remained muted, with minimal shifts in either cargo demand or available vessels.
The BLNG3 US Gulf-Japan route decreased by $1,900 week-over-week to close at $106,600 per day, weighed down by the general absence of liquidity that exerted ongoing downward pressure on freight costs. In the time charter segment, sentiment weakened across all durations.
