London Stocks Rally Late as Mining Sector Overcomes Macro Uncertainty
The FTSE 100 Index closed at 10,854.32 points on Monday, August 24, 2026, up 37.76 points or 0.35% from Friday's close of 10,816.56.
The index opened at 10,816.33 and dipped to a session low of 10,798.98 in early trading before climbing steadily through the afternoon to a high of 10,864.75.
The rally was led by mining stocks, which were boosted by higher precious-metals prices and firm iron ore and copper prices.
Antofagasta gained around 1%, while Anglo American and Fresnillo each advanced more than 0.5%.
Energy and healthcare names weighed on the index, with Shell and BP declining as crude prices eased and AstraZeneca falling around 1% and GSK down roughly 0.5%.
