Louisiana Fishers Sue Venture Global Over LNG Terminal Construction Damage
A group of commercial fishers and seafood processors in southwest Louisiana is suing Venture Global over claims that dredging operations for the construction of two liquefied natural gas terminals have harmed their industry.
The lawsuit alleges that sediment from the dredging spilled into Calcasieu Lake, killing millions of oysters and diminishing catches of finfish, crabs, and shrimp. The affected parties claim that Venture Global's $30 billion terminal project is causing irreparable harm to their livelihoods.
Venture Global already operates a nearly $10 billion LNG export terminal in Cameron Parish and is currently building the second terminal, called CP2. To accommodate tankers, the company has been enlarging a channel near Calcasieu Lake as part of the project.
