Mahanagar Gas Hikes CNG Prices by Rs 2, Domestic PNG by Rs 1 Amid Rising Input Costs

Mahanagar Gas has announced a hike in CNG prices by Rs 2 per kg and domestic PNG by Rs 1 per SCM, citing rising input costs due to Middle East tensions. The new price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) will be Rs 88 per kg in and around Mumbai, effective from midnight on September 1. This decision is aimed at partially offsetting the increased cost of input gas and ensuring continued supply of CNG to customers.

The company serves over 13 lakh CNG vehicles in six districts of Maharashtra and two districts in Karnataka, which will be affected by this price hike. The announcement comes days after Indraprastha Gas, a peer serving the national capital region, hiked CNG prices by Rs 3.89 per kg to Rs 86.98 a kg due to similar reasons.

The increased input costs have also led to a Rs 1 hike per SCM of gas for the 30 lakh domestic consumers. This development is likely to impact households relying on PNG for cooking purposes.
