Mahanagar Gas Raises CNG Prices Amid Middle East Tensions

Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has announced a hike in CNG prices by INR 2 per kg and domestic PNG by INR 1 per SCM, effective September 1. The revision follows rising input costs driven by Middle East tensions and high spot RLNG prices.

The old price of CNG was INR 86.00 per kg, while the new price will be INR 88.00 per kg. Similarly, the domestic PNG price has been increased by INR 1 per SCM. The hike in prices is attributed to the surge in input gas expenses due to regional conflict in the Middle East.

MGL explained that a major portion of the required input gas is met through imported spot Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG), which carries higher price tags. The company added that the latest adjustment will only partially offset the surging cost of input gas while helping maintain a steady and continuous supply for consumers.

The revision impacts millions of users across MGL's distribution network, including 13 lakh CNG vehicles operating in Maharashtra and Karnataka. The same rise in input expenses triggered an INR 1 per SCM increase for nearly 30 lakh domestic PNG consumers.
