Maine residents are bracing for higher gas prices and heating oil costs this winter as global energy markets remain volatile. The national average price for regular gasoline stands at $4.14 per gallon, with Maine drivers paying an average of $4.18 per gallon. This is a significant increase from last year's average price of $3.15 per gallon in Maine.
The high prices are attributed to elevated crude-oil prices and continued volatility surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. Energy Information Administration has reported exceptionally low East Coast distillate inventories, which could further drive up heating oil costs.
A 250-gallon heating-oil delivery in Maine would cost approximately $1,287.50 at the current statewide average price of $5.15 per gallon, a significant increase from last summer's cost of around $850 for the same amount.
