Malampaya Gas Deal Signed to Ease Power Costs for Consumers

Prime Energy has signed an Interim Natural Gas Supply Arrangement with South Premiere Power Corp. to supply indigenous Malampaya gas to the 1,200-megawatt Ilijan Power Plant in Batangas.

The agreement, which covers September 1, 2026 to February 25, 2027, is expected to reduce fuel costs by an average of P0.36 per kilowatt-hour, according to Prime Energy.

This move will help lower electricity costs for consumers and support energy security and reliability in the Luzon power sector.

Prime Energy president and CEO Donnabel Kuizon Cruz said that the arrangement demonstrates 'that indigenous Malampaya gas can help lower electricity costs for consumers while delivering reliable energy supply.'
