Malaysia Gold Prices Surge Amid Geopolitical Uncertainty
Malaysia's gold prices rose on Friday to 591.02 Malaysian Ringgits (MYR) per gram, up from the previous day's MYR 587.79. This marks a significant increase in gold prices, and it's not just a minor fluctuation. The price for gold increased to MYR 6,893.78 per tola from MYR 6,855.90 per tola a day earlier.
The rise in gold prices is attributed to various factors, including geopolitical instability, fears of recession, and the inverse correlation with the US Dollar (USD). As the USD depreciates, gold tends to rise, enabling investors and central banks to diversify their assets during turbulent times. In 2022, central banks added 1,136 tonnes of gold worth around $70 billion to their reserves, which is the highest yearly purchase since records began.
