Malaysia Palm Oil Stockpiles Surge Amid Increased Production
Malaysia's palm oil stockpiles reached a five-month high in July, despite exports increasing due to faster production growth. According to the Malaysia Palm Oil Board (MPOB), inventories rose 3.32% from June to 2.63 million tons, exceeding the Reuters poll's forecast of 2.61 million tons.
The main driver behind this increase was a surge in crude palm oil output, which jumped 9.41% to 1.79 million tons, marking the second consecutive monthly rise. Exports also saw an improvement, increasing by 14.5% to 1.39 million tons, but were unable to keep pace with the higher production levels.
The build-up in inventory is significant because it acts as a shock absorber for the market. When inventories exceed expectations, it signals looser supply conditions, even if headline exports appear strong.
