Malaysia Sees Stable Fuel Supply Amid Global Shortages

Malaysia's fuel supply remains stable despite lower global oil supplies, according to Prime Minister's Office Economic Advisor Nurhisham Hussein. The country is a major importer of crude oil but a net exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), and Petronas has assured that fuel sufficiency will be guaranteed through the end of September.

Nurhisham also noted that global oil supplies have been affected by the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has disrupted key shipping routes. He predicted that countries may take up to two years to rebuild their oil reserves and that prices will likely remain elevated during this time, though not skyrocketing.

The economic advisor also touched on the global food outlook, citing a strong El Niño event that could persist into February 2027. This would impact Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central and Southern Africa, as well as the Caribbean and Latin America, which are all important sources of food for Malaysia.
