Markets Inch Up on Stable Inflation, Ongoing Iran-US Talks
Global markets continued to show signs of stability on Wednesday, with stocks inching up and oil prices dipping due to ongoing US-Iran talks and mild inflation figures. The July US Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose only 0.1%, in line with expectations, which could weaken the argument for a Federal Reserve rate hike next month.
The data release had a positive impact on gold prices, which rose more than 1% as rate hike bets were dented. However, oil prices dipped due to lower demand forecasts, despite the recent rise in crude prices amid tensions over the US and Iran.
Robert Pavlik, senior portfolio manager at Dakota Wealth, stated that the data 'relieves some of the concerns that the Fed is being pushed toward a rate hike due to inflation, which is fueled by higher energy prices.'
