Markets Take a Hit Ahead of Labor Day Weekend
The agricultural and livestock markets are experiencing moderate losses ahead of the long Labor Day weekend. As of September 4, 2026, December corn is down 2.75 cents per bushel, while November soybeans have dropped by 5.50 cents. The wheat market is also feeling the pressure, with December KC wheat falling by 4 cents and December Chicago wheat declining by 8 cents.
The livestock futures are showing a mixed start to the week, with October live cattle up by $0.25 at $214.55, but October feeder cattle down by $0.33 at $320.775. October lean hogs have also dropped, trading at $82.725.
Despite the current losses, the fundamental outlook for both row crops and livestock remains bullish in the long term. However, some price pressure is expected due to the approaching U.S. fall harvest. Profit-taking has been short-lived this week, with reversal action seen on Wednesday and Thursday's sessions.
