Marubeni Beats Q1 Forecasts with Strong Earnings, Shares Slip
Japanese multinational conglomerate Marubeni Corp. reported strong earnings in its first quarter of fiscal year 2026, beating analyst expectations on both earnings per share (EPS) and revenue. The company's EPS came in at $81.53, significantly higher than the forecasted $59.14, while revenue reached $5.181 trillion, surpassing the estimated $4.30308 trillion.
The beat was largely driven by higher coal and copper prices, as well as stronger LNG-related transactions. The mineral resources business stood out, with elevated prices for Australian steelmaking coal and copper contributing to the results. LNG Canada also played a significant role, as production stabilized and transactions increased.
Marubeni's diversified business model, spanning commodities, energy, and food production, helped offset commodity price volatility. Management said several businesses are already contributing to profit growth under its Corporate Strategy 2027 plan.
