Medicine Hat Lowers Natural Gas Rate in September

Medicine Hat residents are in for some relief on their energy bills as the city has set its September natural gas and electricity rates.

The default natural gas rate will drop to $1.25 per gigajoule from $1.537 per gigajoule in August, according to the City of Medicine Hat.

This reduction is based on the weighted average cost of the city's purchases for the month of consumption, plus seven cents per gigajoule for transaction costs and a small rate of return.

However, electricity rates remain unchanged for most customers, with a calculated rate of 4.47 cents per kilowatt-hour for residential, farm, small and medium commercial, unmetered services, and rental lighting customers.
