Metal Prices Gain Momentum, but Rising Input Costs Cast Shadow
Metal prices have gained momentum in recent months, but rising input costs remain a key concern for the sector's sustainability, according to a report from Centrum. The metals industry saw improvements in August, with prices increasing across major segments despite mixed demand conditions.
The report noted that while metal prices are strengthening, input costs are also on the rise, which could weigh on the recovery and impact the sustainability of price gains. Globally, hot-rolled coil (HRC) prices increased by around 3% in both the US and Europe, while China's export HRC prices remained relatively stable.
In India, steel prices have recovered, particularly rebar, which surged nearly 10% month-on-month and around 12% year-over-year. Hot-rolled coil prices also benefited from limited availability and stronger demand from the Middle East.
