Metal Sector Surges on High Commodity Prices, But Near-Term Pressures Loom
The metal sector has been on an upward trend in recent times, driven by high commodity prices. According to NSE data, the sectoral benchmark index, Nifty Metal, has delivered over 4% returns in the last one-month period, outperforming broader market indices.
The index closed at 13,172.60 points on Friday, August 21, up 0.86% from the previous close of 13,060.25 points. This rally is largely due to key metal prices such as steel, copper, aluminium, and zinc surging in the global market.
Experts predict that companies will continue to benefit from higher commodity prices, but caution remains over near-term pressures like input cost trajectory, anti-dumping norms, and China's production and export behavior.
