Mexico Gas Facility Footage Misused to Claim Saudi Oil Refinery Attack
A video circulating on social media claims to show an attack on oil refineries in Saudi Arabia's Jazan region. However, investigation by Misbar's team at Al Araby TV revealed that the footage is actually from a 2012 explosion at a natural gas facility operated by Mexico's state-owned oil company, Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), near Reynosa in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas.
The explosion occurred on September 18, 2012, killing 26 people and injuring 28 others. Pemex stated that four of the victims were its direct employees, while the remaining 22 fatalities were workers employed by subcontracting companies at the site.
The video was first published in December 2012 by Mexican media outlets, including Meganoticias Mx on YouTube, under the title 'Leaked videos show Pemex explosion in Reynosa.'
