Mexico Grains Imports Surge to Highest Level Since 2015 Amid Domestic Demand Growth
Mexico's grain and oilseed imports have reached their highest level since 2015 in the first half of this year, driven by sustained growth in domestic demand from the livestock and food processing industries. The country imported a total of 23.9 million tons (Mt) of grains and oilseeds between January and June 2026, valued at $7.5 billion.
Corn was the most imported agricultural commodity, with imports totaling 12.3 Mt, an 8.6% year-on-year increase, while their commercial value reached $2.5 billion, up 3.4%. Yellow corn from the US accounted for 11.7 Mt of these imports.
However, white corn imports declined by 15.9% in volume and 11.5% in value, totaling 490,000 tons, reflecting a more stable domestic supply following the arrival of the national harvest during the semester.
