Mexico's Energia Costa Azul Ships First LNG Cargo with Boost to North America

Energia Costa Azul, Mexico's second liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility, has shipped its first cargo from Phase 1 of the terminal.

The shipment marks a significant milestone for the project, which adds 0.4 billion cubic feet per day of nominal export capacity to Mexico's LNG market.

The completion of Energia Costa Azul triples Mexico's LNG export capacity and boosts North American export capacity on the Pacific Coast to 2.2 billion cubic feet per day.

Due to its location on the US-Mexico border, the facility is subject to regulatory approvals from the US Department of Energy (DOE), which has authorized exports to countries with a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and non-FTA countries at different levels.
