Mexico's Energía Mayakan Pipeline Expansion Hits 65% Completion

The Energía Mayakan natural gas pipeline project is rapidly expanding across southeastern Mexico, with Phase II recently entering commercial operation.

The $2 billion project, developed by ENGIE in partnership with Macquarie Asset Management, aims to double the region's natural gas transportation capacity from 250 million to 567 million cubic feet per day.

Phase II added approximately 200 kilometers of pipeline and two new regulation and measurement stations, providing a direct supply of natural gas to key power generation plants, including Mérida IV and Valladolid IV combined-cycle facilities.

The project will reduce energy costs for businesses, help prevent power outages across the Yucatán Peninsula, and lower methane emissions by up to 40% while preventing approximately 4.6 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
