MGL Connects Maharashtra Village to Piped Gas, Sets Rural Expansion Example
Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has achieved a milestone in its efforts to expand access to piped natural gas (PNG) in rural areas. The company announced that Ashiv village in Maharashtra's Latur district is now India's first LPG-free PNG village, with all 1,050 connected households receiving cooking fuel directly through pipelines.
The shift from cylinder-based LPG to PNG marks a significant move towards a continuous piped fuel supply. Unlike LPG, which requires households to book and receive cylinders periodically, PNG is delivered through the local gas distribution network and billed based on consumption.
MGL's CEO Yadnesh Dhuri stated that the achievement demonstrates the potential for city gas infrastructure to be extended to rural communities through a structured rollout.
