MGL Hikes CNG, PNG Prices Amid West Asia Crisis
Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has increased the prices of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Domestic Piped Natural Gas (DPNG) in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MR). The hike, which is effective from September 1, 2026, sees CNG priced at Rs 88 per kg and DPNG at Rs 53 per standard cubic metre (SCM).
The price increase was necessitated by rising input costs due to the ongoing West Asia crisis. This has led to higher gas procurement costs for MGL, as a larger portion of the demand for CNG is met through spot regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG), whose price has also increased.
The hike will affect nearly 12.93 lakh vehicles across the MMR that run on MGL-supplied CNG, including auto rickshaws, taxis, private vehicles, and those operated by transport authorities.
