MGL Slaps Mumbai with 2-kg CNG Price Hike Amid Middle East Tensions
Mahanagar Gas (MGL) has increased the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in and around Mumbai by Rs 2 per kg, making it Rs 88 per kg. The hike is effective from midnight on September 1, according to an official statement.
The increase in CNG prices is due to a rise in input costs caused by the Middle East tensions. A major portion of input gas for the CNG segment is being met through imported spot Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG), where prices are higher. The price hike will only partially offset the rising cost of input gas and ensure continued supply of CNG to customers.
With this increase, MGL's 13 lakh CNG vehicles in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Latur, Dharashiv (Maharashtra), and Chitradurga and Davangere (Karnataka) will be affected. The domestic PNG prices have also been increased by Rs 1 per SCM of gas for the 30 lakh domestic consumers.
