Micbot Robots Gear Up for Saudi Arabian Oil Industry Challenge
Chinese robotics firm Micbot is expanding its presence in the Saudi Arabian oil industry. The company, based in Zhejiang province, has been working on developing heavy-duty, explosion-proof robots to join Aramco's facilities, petrochemical bases, and mines. According to Huang Ziyan, chief marketing officer of Micbot, these products are designed to withstand extreme conditions such as strong magnetic fields, high temperatures, and wet or submerged environments.
Micbot's robots feature a unique wheeled-leg design for carrying heavy payloads and have been engineered with comprehensive 'four-in-one' protection - antimagnetic, explosion-proof, waterproof, and freeze-resistant. This tailored approach is intended to address the challenging oil and gas production conditions in Saudi Arabia.
Aramco executives and technicians have visited Micbot's research and development centre four times since February, providing input for product optimisation. The first batch of shipments to Saudi Arabia is expected in September or October, with feedback from Aramco to inform a decision on mass procurement by the end of the year.
