Sweet corn season has begun in mid-Michigan's DeWitt Township, but customers may see higher prices this year due to rising costs. Robert Reese, farmer at Reese Farms, said the decision to increase sweet corn prices from $9.00 per dozen to $9.50 per dozen was driven by increasing expenses for fuel, fertilizer, seed, and insurance.

Reese emphasized the importance of finding a balance between profitability and sustainability, stating, 'It's a delicate balance, and we would like to make enough so we can do this again next year.' He noted that sweet corn is not a cheap crop to grow, requiring significant time, money, and labor.

Despite the price increase, Reese Farms has seen an influx of customers, with many picking up their corn as soon as it's available. Reese expressed gratitude for his loyal customer base, saying, 'We're just so thankful for customers to come out... It's just a tremendous feeling to look out and the driveway's full, and the corn is leaving about as fast as we can pick it.'
