Michigan Secures $450,000 Grant for New Dry Corn Mill
A major investment in Michigan's agricultural sector is underway as Star of the West Milling Company secures a US$450,000 grant to support the construction of a new dry corn mill. The facility will be built on the site of a former wheat flour mill and will convert locally grown crops into value-added food-grade and feed-grade corn ingredients.
The new mill is expected to process over 5 million bushels of Michigan food-grade corn in its first year, with annual capacity expanding to 6.7 million bushels by the fifth year. The daily processing capacity will be more than 21,000 bushels. The facility will create 17 direct jobs and strengthen regional agricultural supply chains.
The project is part of a broader US$79 million capital investment, with construction already underway on the Quincy site. Full commercial operations are targeted for completion in 2028. MDARD officials highlighted the strategic importance of processing agricultural commodities closer to where they are grown, retaining economic value within local rural communities.
