Middle East Conflict Wreaks Havoc on Energy Infrastructure and Petrochemical Production

The ongoing military conflict in the Middle East has caused significant damage to the region's energy infrastructure and petrochemical production, disrupting global supplies and increasing uncertainty across energy and chemical markets.

Approximately 37-39 critical energy facilities, including oil refineries, natural gas fields, storage terminals, and export infrastructure across nine countries, have been affected by missile and drone attacks. Kuwait remains among the hardest-hit countries, with the Mina Al-Ahmadi and Mina Abdullah refineries suffering significant damage.

The disruption has reduced refining capacity, tightened petroleum product supplies, and raised concerns about prolonged shortages of essential petrochemical feedstocks used in manufacturing worldwide. The petrochemical sector has been severely affected, with Iran's South Pars petrochemical complex in Asaluyeh suffering extensive damage, leaving nearly 75% of the country's petrochemical production capacity non-operational.

The impact extends beyond Iran, as petrochemical complexes across the Gulf have reduced production due to feedstock shortages, infrastructure damage, and security concerns. The ongoing conflict has created one of the most severe disruptions to global petrochemical supply chains in decades, with repair work on damaged facilities expected to take several months.
