Middle East Hopes Boost Tokyo Stocks Amid AI Investment Concerns
Tokyo stocks rose on Monday after crude oil prices retreated due to easing tensions in the Middle East, but concerns over returns from artificial intelligence investment limited their gains.
The Nikkei Stock Average ended up 320.04 points or 0.50 percent at 64,931.19, while the broader Topix index finished 54.76 points or 1.37 percent higher at 4,066.07.
On the Prime Market, air transportation service and rubber product issues saw significant gains.
The U.S. dollar traded around the mid-163 yen level in Tokyo following reports that President Donald Trump has put aside plans to escalate military operations against Iran for now.
The Nikkei index briefly turned negative due to losses among technology shares tracking their U.S. counterparts, but most sectors rose as inflation concerns eased on hopes of normalized oil supplies.
