Middle East LNG Boom Falters on Oversupply Concerns

The Middle East's large-scale expansion of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production is facing an oversupply threat as leading buyers consider diversifying their energy sources.

According to analysts, Qatar is most vulnerable to this overcapacity issue and does not have buyers lined up for 50 million tonnes per annum (tpa) of LNG that will come online by 2031.

This warning was made during a panel discussion at the Gastech conference in Bangkok, which focused on 'Gas & LNG in a geopolitically fragmented world.'
