Middle East Tensions Fuel Crude Oil Price Surge to $101.92
Crude oil prices have surged to their highest level in months, reaching $101.92 for the October contract, up 6.07% from yesterday's close.
The Brent crude oil price has also increased, trading at $107.23, a gain of 5.96% since the previous day.
The recent gains are the largest since August 10, and market analysts point to growing supply concerns in the Middle East as the primary driver behind the surge.
According to a report from the WSJ, Iran is reportedly producing ballistic missiles again, adding to the already heightened tensions in the region.
The attacks on oil tankers have increased, and the Iran-backed Houthis have seized Yemen's port of Mocha, putting them closer to the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb shipping route.
Combined with continued threats surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and no permanent ceasefire between the US and Iran, the market is adding a larger geopolitical risk premium to crude prices.
