Middle East Tensions Push Brent Oil Above $100 a Barrel
Brent oil futures rose above $100 a barrel on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate. The price increase is largely attributed to concerns over supply disruptions and potential conflicts affecting global oil flows.
The US-Iran conflict has been ongoing for six months, with no signs of abatement despite White House claims of an imminent deal. Investors are growing increasingly anxious that the Federal Reserve may be forced to hike interest rates to combat surging consumer prices, fueled by rising energy costs.
Fawad Razaqzada, a market analyst at FOREX.com, noted that 'the continuing conflict in the Middle East is keeping concerns over supply disruptions... and that in turn is worrying investors about the inflationary consequences of elevated oil prices.'
