Middle East Tensions Send Brent Crude Above $95 per Barrel
Brent crude oil futures have broken above $95 per barrel for the first time in over a month, driven by escalating tensions in the Middle East. This spike in energy prices is also being reflected in other commodities markets, such as natural gas and soybeans.
The increase in Brent crude prices is largely attributed to rising concerns about Persian Gulf tensions, which have pushed oil prices higher. This escalation has led to a surge in energy prices, with TTF gas trading at its highest level since 2023, exceeding EUR75 per megawatt-hour.
However, gold prices have declined, slipping below $4,300 per ounce, as the escalating tensions push oil prices upwards. On the other hand, soybean futures have climbed to their highest level since December 2023, supported by a stronger-than-expected US renewable fuel exemption decision that improved the biofuel demand outlook.
