Middle East Tensions Send Oil Prices Soaring This Week
Oil prices have closed out the week with their biggest increase since mid-July due to renewed tensions in the Middle East. The Brent crude oil futures for November delivery were trading at $95.51 a barrel on the ICE Futures stock exchange, down just 1 cent from the previous day's close. On Thursday, they had fallen by $0.11 (0.12%) to $95.52 a barrel. In contrast, WTI crude oil futures for October delivery were up $0.23 (0.25%) to $91.53 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
The rise in oil prices reflects growing concerns about stability in the region. The increase in Brent crude oil is significant, as it marks the largest gain since mid-July. WTI crude oil futures have also seen an uptick, increasing by $0.29 (0.32%) to $91.30 per barrel on Thursday.
