Middle East Tensions Spark Market Turmoil
The escalating tensions in the Middle East have caused a stir in financial markets worldwide. The U.S. government bond market saw a slight easing of yields on Tuesday, with longer-dated yields hovering near multi-year highs.
This was largely driven by concerns over inflation, which rose due to the heightened geopolitical situation. Major U.S. stock indices suffered losses, with the Nasdaq Composite declining 1.33%, the Dow Jones slipping 0.22%, and the S&P 500 falling 0.69% as oil prices surged.
The recent movements in oil markets reflected these tensions, with Brent crude futures reaching a three-week high of $91.02 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude gained 44 cents to settle at $84.94 a barrel.
