Middle East Truce Teeters as US and Iran Clash over Strait of Hormuz
The fragile truce in the Middle East is under threat after the US and Iran launched new attacks in their struggle for control of the Strait of Hormuz.
On Monday, the US military destroyed six Iranian small boats, along with cruise missiles and drones, as part of 'Project Freedom', a campaign led by President Donald Trump to escort stranded tankers through the strait.
The strait is a vital waterway for global oil supplies, but has been largely closed since US and Israeli attacks on Iran began on February 28. The closure has caused price rises worldwide.
Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, accused the US and its allies of breaching the four-week-old ceasefire. He warned that the security of shipping and energy transit was under threat.
