Midland Community Center Offers Free Counseling for Seniors as Freeland Bean and Grain Wins Top Export Award

Freeland Bean and Grain was named the 2026 Michigan Agriculture Exporter of the Year by the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development. The company has been a local, family-owned business in the region since 1983, dealing in soybeans, soft red wheat, corn, and edible black beans.

The award recognizes companies that produce and export high-quality, Michigan-grown products. To be eligible, at least 50% of their product must be grown in-state, and exports must be a significant contribution to the business. Freeland Bean and Grain's exports are entirely grown in Michigan, with their black bean exports accounting for a quarter of their total sales annually.

The Greater Midland Community Center is now offering free counseling services for senior citizens through a partnership with Family & Children’s Services of Mid-Michigan. The services are available every Wednesday and do not require a referral to access. Tad Hupfer, the individual supplying the services, specializes in counseling services for the elderly and has experience working with senior living facilities and independent living communities.
