MISC Bhd has been awarded a long-term charter contract by Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG) for an LNG carrier. The newbuild vessel, with a capacity of 18,700 cubic meters, is currently under construction at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co Ltd in China.

The contract marks a significant milestone in MISC's LNG carrier fleet rejuvenation programme, which aims to deploy modern and fuel-efficient vessels. The project will support Petronas' continued supply of liquefied natural gas to Sendai City, Japan, reinforcing a partnership that spans nearly 30 years.

MISC had entered into a shipbuilding contract with Hudong-Zhonghua on July 30 for the construction of the newbuild LNG carrier. The project is expected to commence in 2028 and will run for a firm charter period of 10 years.
