Mississauga Refinery to End Base Oil Production by 2027
HF Sinclair Corporation has announced plans to retire its base oil refining assets in Mississauga by 2027, marking the end of a facility that has been one of Canada's most important sources of refined oils.
The Mississauga Lubricants Centre, which operates under Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc., currently produces approximately 15,600 barrels of base oil per day and is Canada's largest base oil producer.
However, the company will no longer produce those raw materials in-house, instead relying on agreements with two global manufacturers for supplies. The facility will continue to operate as a blender and packager of imported base oils under the Petro-Canada Lubricants brand.
Unifor, the union representing workers at the site, has criticized the decision, citing concerns over job losses and the impact on Canada's security.
