Mixed Close on Wall Street as Oil Prices Plummet Amid Easing Mideast Tensions
Wall Street's major indexes closed in mixed territory Monday as investors reacted to easing tensions between the US and Iran. The S&P 500 rose less than 0.1%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.5%. However, the Nasdaq composite fell 0.2% for its fourth consecutive loss.
The three major stock indexes are on track to close the month in the red, with it being the second straight monthly decline for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq.
Oil prices plummeted after a sharp escalation in fighting between the US and Iran last week worsened worries about global oil supplies. The price of Brent crude dropped 6.3% to $85.87 per barrel, while US crude oil fell 7.5% to $82.61 per barrel.
