Mixed Global Markets Amid Ongoing Concerns Over Strait of Hormuz
Global stock markets showed mixed results on Friday after a modest decline in US stocks. While European markets, such as Germany's DAX and France's CAC 40, rose by 0.7% and 0.3%, respectively, other regions experienced losses. The FTSE 100 in Britain was up 0.5%, but the Shanghai Composite index in China gained a more substantial 1%.
The recent gains in oil prices were reflected in the decline of crude oil futures. Brent crude fell by 0.3% to $82.26 per barrel, while US benchmark crude oil edged lower by 0.1% to $77.19 per barrel. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for oil transportation, remains a point of contention between Iran and other nations.
Despite concerns over the war in the region and potential bubbles in AI-related investments, corporate profits have provided some reassurance on Wall Street. Roughly 85% of companies in the S&P 500 have reported their earnings, showing growth since 2021.
