Mixed Global Markets as US Shares Fall, Oil Edges Lower
Global stock markets are mixed as the US sees its third consecutive day of falling shares. U.S. stock futures, however, added to their gains after a report from the government showed employers unexpectedly cut 23,000 jobs last month.
The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose by 0.5% and 0.33%, respectively, while bond yields dropped sharply. This weaker job market can be seen as putting less upward pressure on inflation, with the yield on the 10-year Treasury falling to 4.60% from 4.67% just before the report.
Despite this, global shares were mixed Friday, with Germany's DAX rising by 1% in midday European trading. The price of Brent crude fell 0.7%, however, after rising nearly 4% on Thursday due to uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz's reopening.
