Modi Chairs Extended Security Meeting Amid Ongoing West Asia Conflict
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an extended Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting to review the safety of seafarers and address supply chain constraints in West Asia. The meeting, which was the fourth special CCS gathering on this issue, was attended by senior ministers, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Cabinet Secretary T V Somanathan briefed the CCS on the current geo-political situation in West Asia. He informed them that measures have been taken to ensure an adequate supply of petroleum products, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and fertilisers. The government has diversified sources for LPG procurement and maintained a strong stock position of major petroleum products.
The availability of crude oil has allowed Central Public Sector Enterprise refineries to operate at utilisation levels exceeding 100%, ensuring continued production of petrol, diesel, and other petroleum products. Initiatives have also been taken to expand Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections, leading to a significant increase in subscriptions.
The ministers discussed alternative sources of fertilisers for the upcoming Rabi season and assessed requirements. Prime Minister Modi directed the ministers to ensure uninterrupted supply of fertilisers.
