Moldova Cuts Tariffs for Rail Transit of Ukrainian Goods

The Republic of Moldova has reduced tariffs for rail transit of Ukrainian goods through its territory until the end of 2026, hoping to attract about 10% of Ukraine's agricultural exports and boost revenue for Moldovan Railways.

This move comes after Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports in the Odesa region severely limited Ukraine's maritime export options. To compensate, Moldova halved tariffs for rail transit of Ukrainian goods, including grain.

Moldovan farmers are concerned about the impact of cheaper Ukrainian wheat on their local market. Sergiu Spinei, a farmer from Delacau, said that local producers are already facing losses due to harsh winter conditions, higher costs, and low water levels in the Danube River.
