Moldovan Farmers Threaten Protests Over Import License Limitations
The Farmers' Force Association is criticizing the Moldovan Parliament's decision to limit the licensing mechanism for grain and oilseed imports until October 31, 2026. The association claims that this period is too short, given the current market situation in Ukraine where prices are falling.
According to the farmers, the low prices in Ukraine will put pressure on Moldova's market for at least four months. They warn that without an extension of the licensing mechanism, local producers will be severely affected and may even face imports at dumping prices.
The association also fears that the waiver of licensing could create a risk of restrictions on Moldovan exports to Romania, which has been applying licensing for imports from Ukraine since 2022. The Farmers' Force is threatening to organize protests if the mechanism is not extended.
