Moldova's Farmers Seek Urgent Action to Stabilize Grain Market

Moldovan farmers are facing significant challenges in the grain and oilseed market. According to Forța Fermierilor, the situation has deteriorated over the past five months due to rising diesel fuel prices (up by approximately 70%), an acute fuel shortage threatening summer and fall agricultural work, and a 35-40% increase in fertilizer costs.

The association is calling on the Moldovan authorities to resume licensing imports of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine. If this doesn't happen, there's a risk that exports of Moldovan products to Romania could be suspended due to a potential influx of cheaper Ukrainian grain imports.

Ukraine has agreed with the European Commission to accelerate development of alternative export routes via Danube ports, but this might not alleviate the pressure on Moldovan farmers. Analysts warn that without action from the authorities, the 2026 harvest may not yield even a minimal profit for farmers.
