Moldova's Grain Import Law Sparks Farmer Concerns Over Market Stability
Farmers in Moldova are expressing concerns about the recent law passed by Parliament regarding grain and oilseed imports. The Farmers' Force Association claims that the final version of the law, which sets a validity period until October 31, 2026, is too short given the current market conditions.
The association points out that prices for grains in Ukraine are continuously falling, making it difficult for farmers to sell their production at a profit. With the corn and sunflower harvest just beginning, the situation is deemed exceptional and requires a longer licensing period.
The Farmers' Force Association believes that the refusal of the Government to extend the licensing mechanism will lead to imports at dumping prices, affecting local producers and favoring imports over domestic production.
